Interview with Australian Photographer Aleksandar Jason

Aleksandar Jason is a talented photographer from Australia who takes meaningful photos of nature and people. His images are reminiscent of mythical tales and paintings. In this interview, Aleksandar talks about influential artists, bits of wisdom every artist should know, and the perks of being isolated from the rest of the world. Enjoy!

What drew you to photography?

To be honest, I feel like I gradually grew into photography. It wasn't really something that I wanted to be as a child, but as I grew older I found an interest in art as a whole. I always wanted to be creative; music, fashion or photo and here we are. So if I had to answer this with one word, it would have to be ART.

You take incredible photos of people and nature. What advice would you give to photographers who want to photograph the world as gracefully as you do?

I like the word gracefully, for me it all depends on where you are - New Zealand is a perfect example of amazing. Every corner was photogenic, from Queenstown to Lindis Pass, no matter where you are NZ was just beautiful. The best advice I could give would be just to have fun, don't compare to others and be yourself.

Which artists have influenced you the most?

Not one to find inspiration/influencers from other photographers, mainly musicians or movies/cinema experience. I would have to say I idolize Ridley Scott and Wes Anderson.

What do you do when you hit a creative obstacle?

Travel if possible or find a new flick to watch, enjoy something new either cultural based or put myself in a deep end of a new experience.

How has living in Australia shaped you as an artist?

Being isolated from the rest of the world, I feel, has allowed me and many others to create our own destiny/style of work.
