Hello everyone! It feels great to be here ones again!
I'm Samuel Ogunlaja. I'm a Conceptual Portrait photographer based in Lagos Nigeria. I started photography in 2011 and experimented with various genres of photography before finding a niche in Conceptual Portrait Photography in 2017. I'm one of the Expert Critics here on Excio. You may have seen my name on some of Excio photo critique blogs or perhaps I have even critiqued one of your photos before?
I believe there are transitions in photography and every photographer must understand the processes involved in these transitions. Photography is first of all an ART. Therefore, a photographer is first an artist, before he is a photographer. Then he is first a photographer before he’s a genre-based photographer (i.e. landscape photographer, portrait photographer etc.). This means that a photographer must first expose himself to a wide range of knowledge in photography; experimenting with various genres until he finds a niche of his own.
I also believe that not all photographers are in this just for the love of art; some are in for the business. I believe what we call a “niche” itself is determined by our personal intrinsic or extrinsic values. The intrinsic value could be because we just love that genre of photography or its subjects, while the extrinsic value could be because of the profitability of that genre. However it is, we are all photographers because we are bound by the same creative process.
So I am to help with any question that you might have as it relates to your photography journey and experience while personally learning from you through the process. This is going to be really exciting!
I look forward to hearing from you!
